• Mr. Todd Gettys

Years on the WYASD Board of Directors: 12

    Occupation:  Accountant

What would you say the most important issue is before the Board right now?
We have instituted many new programs and initiatives to improve opportunities for all students. We must continue to meet the needs of all students in a fiscally responsible manner. We should continue to retain and attract the very best teachers. Student respect and discipline consistency should be at the forefront of our efforts.

What would you like the community to know about the West York Area School District?
We have made many improvements over the past two years to change the culture and environment for the betterment of all students. We must be patient and allow the changes to take effect – we did not get here overnight and we will not change things overnight.

What makes West York's mission, Every Student Every Day, powerful for you?
We are making a positive difference in the lives of our students by providing new opportunities for students to become world-class citizens and achieve their very best. We have made great progress in the past two years in a variety of areas at all grade levels and buildings. Just like the farmer views a freshly planted field – I am patiently awaiting the harvest!

Where do you see the District in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years, and how do you see your role on the Board as an integral part of this?
We should be able to maintain the tax rate and not raise taxes for several years to come. I will not support a tax increase during my four-year term. We have several revenue sources coming on line, along with the administrative office lease, that will provide funding to meet the needs of a new teacher contract and current programs. In 17 years, we will be debt-free and can start to fund future building reserves. We should continue to build community partnerships in order to provide students with additional educational opportunities.

Where could we find you on the weekend?
You can find me riding my Harley-Davidson V-Rod whenever I get the chance.

What people might be surprised to know about you?
I enjoy crabbing on the Indian River.

What is one piece of advice you would share with our High School seniors?
Always be your best, no matter who is watching!

What would you do even if you didn’t get paid to do it?
Besides the School Board, I enjoy volunteering and mission trips.
